Abstract

This study aims to reflect on Youth and Adult Education (YAE), using school dropout as a reference point for analysis, understood in this study as both a cause and a consequence of failure to continue educational trajectories. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire, and the data were analyzed quantitatively. The results indicate that the main causes of school dropout are related to difficulties in balancing work and studies, inadequate teacher training, lack of teaching resources, curriculum misalignment with the specific needs of Youth and Adult Education, and the absence of effective public policies aimed not only at ensuring access to education but also at promoting student retention. Based on these findings, it is concluded that school dropout is a multifactorial phenomenon; however, educators must continuously develop and implement strategies that encourage students to remain in school and successfully complete their educational journey.
