Coping with prostate cancer in the elderly: an integrative review

Objective: To describe the coping of the elderly in the face of the diagnosis of prostate cancer, delimiting the performance and care of nursing. Method: Integrative review, carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library (SciELO), Latin American Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), websites of the Federal Government (Ministry of Health), through the keywords: prostate cancer, prevention, treatment, diagnosis, elderly and role of nursing. Results: A total of 48 documents were pre-selected, 17 of which were selected as the final sample. Four categories were designed: a. "History of prostate cancer"; b. "Prevention and treatment of prostate cancer"; c. "Coping with the elderly in the face of the news of the diagnosis of prostate cancer"; d. "Nursing performance in the care of the elderly in coping with prostate cancer". Final considerations: it is necessary to raise awareness about the importance of men's health, encouraging the care that must be provided so that early detection occurs in order to achieve success in treatment.
