Abstract

Objective:  to assess the resilience and quality of life of men undergoing treatment for prostate cancer. Method: Literature review through scientific databases Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Social and Health Sciences, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrivel System Online and Nursing Databases. Articles published in Portuguese (Brazil) were included, available online and in full. Those published in English and unrelevant with the theme were excluded. Results: A total of 72 articles were found and selected for reading the title, of which 22 were read in abstracts and 13 included in the final work. It was verified through these that the man undergoing treatment of prostate cancer faces during the treatment several conditions related to masculinity and emotional that compromise his quality of life, however, resilience is shown to be a positive element that contributes to better coping with the adversities of treatment as well as the disease itself, men who remain resilient during treatment also are less likely to develop disorders and to control mild and moderate cases of them. Conclusion: resilience is a fundamental aspect for the quality of life of men in prostate cancer treatment, contributing to better coping with the disease.
